The Best Time for a Maternity Photoshoot in Dubai
The sweet spot is around 30–34 weeks, shot at golden hour — but the right week, light and location depend on you and the Dubai season. Here's how to plan a shoot that's relaxed, comfortable and beautiful.
The best weeks
Aim for 30 to 34 weeks. That's when the bump is round and unmistakable but you're usually still comfortable enough to move, walk a beach and hold a few poses. Earlier than ~28 weeks and the bump may not read clearly on camera; much later and you may feel too tired to enjoy it. If you're expecting twins or carrying larger, nudge a little earlier — around 28–32 weeks.
Book the session a few weeks ahead of that window, because good photographers fill up — and so you're not scrambling if baby has other plans.
The best light & time of day
Golden hour wins every time: the hour after sunrise or before sunset gives soft, warm, flattering light — and in Dubai it keeps you out of the midday heat. For an outdoor shoot in the warmer months, early morning is the most comfortable by far. For a calm, controlled option any time of year, a home or studio session works beautifully too, especially for a more intimate feel.
The best season in Dubai
October to April is glorious for outdoor shoots — comfortable temperatures, beautiful beaches and parks, and easy golden hours. May to September is hotter, so we keep outdoor sessions to early morning, choose shaded or waterfront spots, or move indoors. There's a good option in every season — it's just about planning around the heat.
Where to shoot — locations across Dubai
- Beaches — Kite Beach, JBR and the Palm at golden hour for that soft, dreamy backdrop.
- Parks & greenery — Safa Park, Zabeel Park and Al Barari for a natural, gentle setting.
- Desert — Al Qudra and the Lahbab dunes for dramatic, cinematic maternity portraits.
- At home — intimate, comfortable and perfect if you'd rather not travel, and ideal to flow straight into a newborn session later.
How to plan a relaxed shoot
- Pick two outfits — one flowing dress that catches the light and the breeze, and one fitted piece that shows the bump's shape.
- Bring your partner and/or kids for part of it — the connection shots are often the favourites.
- Don't over-pose — the best frames are the calm, real, in-between moments. A good photographer guides gently rather than directing stiffly.
- Plan a little buffer — give yourself a slow morning so you arrive unhurried.
And the newborn shoot?
If you'd like newborn photos too, the ideal window is the first one to two weeks after birth, while babies sleep deeply and curl naturally. It's worth booking that around your due date when you book the maternity session, so both are locked in. I cover both on my maternity & family photography page.
The short version
Book for 30–34 weeks, shoot at golden hour, lean on October–April for outdoors (or go early-morning / indoors in summer), and keep it unhurried. Do that and you'll have portraits of this once-only chapter you'll treasure for life.
