LinkedIn Personal Branding for Founders in Mumbai
In Mumbai’s finance, media, fashion and D2C circles, investors, partners and senior hires check the founder before they check the company.
01
Why founders, and why LinkedIn
In Mumbai’s finance, media, fashion and D2C circles, investors, partners and senior hires check the founder before they check the company. A founder with a clear, consistent LinkedIn presence makes every other conversation easier: sales calls start warmer, recruiting gets easier and press finds you.
02
Step 1: decide what you want to be known for
Pick one or two themes you can talk about with real authority, such as building a D2C brand from Mumbai, lessons from fintech compliance, or what fashion retail is getting wrong. Narrow beats broad. Write a one-line positioning statement and rewrite your headline around it.
03
Step 2: fix the profile
A professional, natural portrait (not a cropped wedding photo), a banner that says what the company does, an About section written for your buyer, and a Featured section with your best work. These are what people see when they click your name after a meeting.
04
Step 3: three content pillars
For example: lessons from building the company, opinions on your industry, and behind-the-scenes of the team. Rotate between them. Mix formats: text posts, carousels, short talking-head videos and photos from real moments.
05
Step 4: make video easy
Short videos perform well on LinkedIn but founders rarely have time. Batch them: one well-lit session with a proper mic can produce a month of clips. I shoot these with a Sony A7 IV and DJI wireless mic, so the founder only has to talk.
06
Step 5: cadence and engagement
Two to three posts a week is sustainable for most founders. Spend time commenting thoughtfully on others’ posts in your space; it builds visibility faster than posting alone.
07
Step 6: when to add LinkedIn ads
Once you have posts that resonate organically, thought-leadership ads can put them in front of a targeted audience by title and company. It’s a strong fit for B2B founders with a meaningful deal size. More on LinkedIn marketing & personal branding.
